CFTC votes on treatment of commodity options

The CFTC approved by a 5-0 vote a rule to treat commodity options the same as other swaps. Previously, agricultural and commodity options swaps were treated differently than other transactions.  Under the new rules, they will receive the same rules and regulations as interest rate, credit, and other swaps.

The rule will take effect 60 days after publication in the Federal Register.
